Assortment
Assortment is the full set of products a store carries within a category, at a point in time.
Assortment is the full set of products a store carries within a category, at a point in time. It matters in e-commerce because assortment is a competitive signal on its own: a store that carries more of a category's long tail, or carries a specific brand, is making a deliberate merchandising choice. Assortment data is usually collected by crawling a store's category pages and recording every SKU listed, then comparing that list against a competitor's or against your own catalog. The resulting comparison, often called a gap analysis, shows which products a brand or retailer is actually missing rather than estimating it from a category-level sample.
