A marketplace is a platform where multiple independent sellers list and sell products alongside each other, rather than a single retailer selling only its own inventory. It matters for e-commerce data because marketplaces add a layer that a single-retailer site doesn't have: many sellers can list the same product at different prices, and only one seller typically wins the primary listing position at a time. Collecting data from a marketplace usually means capturing every competing seller's price and stock for a listing, not just the price shown by default, since the default listing can change between visits. This is also where concepts like Buy Box become relevant.
