Web scraping is the automated extraction of data from web pages, done by a program that requests a page and reads its content the way a browser would. For e-commerce data, it's the method behind every price, listing and review feed that isn't typed in by hand: a scraper visits a product page, pulls the fields that matter such as price, title, stock and images, and hands them off in a structured format. Scraping only works on pages that are publicly accessible; it doesn't bypass a login or paywall. The hard part isn't the request itself but keeping it running as stores redesign pages, restrict known bot patterns, or restructure their HTML, which is why most scraping setups need ongoing maintenance rather than a one-time build.
